Vendl is an in-house project that wants to upgrade the mobile shopping experience. Right now more than 80% of browsing is done on mobile devices, however under 30% of sales are made trough portable devices. We want to offer Shopify store owners a real alternative to traditional mobile browsing - native iOS and Android apps that connect trough an API directly to their Shopify store - the app can be set up in just a few days and ready to launch!
the project
Shopify is an online platform that business owners can use to sell their items - anything from clothing to accessories, services or experiences. It allows the owners to customize their website, add and manage inventory and take orders trough the platform. Vendl plugs right into the Shopify eco-system - it connects to the backend, pulls the inventory data, allows the store owner to add their own branding and in a matter of days creates a custom made, ready to use native set of apps.
innovate browsing
Browsing is focused on the product - quality over quantity! The UI focuses on one item at a time compared to the traditional grid system and uses gestures instead of taps
optimize the checkout
The checkout is tailored for mobile use and takes advantage of the device - responsive fields, location data and card scanning to make the process seamless
desktop admin
It's important that each brand retains it's visual identity. We created an admin trough which the owner can upload the logo, promo pictures and chose colors and fonts

challenges
The main challenge of Vendl was identifying the breaking points of the traditional mobile shopping experience and addressing those in new, innovative ways. The gestures we use are fluid and natural, making the experience seem native and user-centered. By using the swipe feature we can create a tap-less experience that gives the feeling of never leaving the screen, important when browsing items and checking details.
what i learned
Vendl is a project centered around small user interaction and in order to accomplish a smooth, fluid way of browsing the team needed to make sure that every step of the process is mapped out and thoroughly tested.
My takeaway from this project is the knowledge to create responsive, natural transitions and to utilize them as a core element of my designs, alongside implementing a clean, minimalistic UI that can fit different brands.
